  • Trick or Treat in the Harbor

The Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance proudly presents “Trick or Treat in the Harbor” from 3pm – 6pm on Halloween, Wednesday, October 31.  To provide a safe area for trick or treating, Harborview Drive will be closed from 2:00pm – 6pm from Soundview Drive to Rosedale Street, and Pioneer Way will be closed from Harborview Drive to Tarabochia Street.

“Many of the downtown waterfront businesses, including Finholm, will be open and have candy available for trick or treaters,” according to Mary DesMarais, Executive Director of the Alliance.  “Their generosity towards our local community is something very special, especially when you consider they’ve been doing this for so many years.”

Numerous activities will be taking place in the area to go along with all the trick or treating:

    • At the Skansie House, Harbor WildWatch will be offering a “Spooky Skulls Tour”
    • Nearby, kids will find Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One on Harborview for a close-up look and an opportunity to meet emergency responders!
    • Harbor Dance will be on hand in the late afternoon in front of Skansie Brothers Park to put on a
      “spook-tacularly thrilling” dance number (4:30 and 5:00pm)
    • The Gig Harbor Church of the Nazarene will offer their “Trunk or Treat and Carnival” event.
    • Paradise Theatre will open their haunted house for the kids from 4pm – 6pm. Free admission and they promise, “no scares.” (located on Judson Street in the space previously occupied by Ace Hardware).

  • Honoring Our Heroes

Downtown Waterfront Alliance Launches New Veteran’s Banner Project
    – Honoring Gig Harbor’s Heroes –

The Downtown Waterfront Alliance is introducing a new project to honor our local Military Heroes.  Applications for this unique opportunity to honor those who have served, or are currently serving, are being accepted.  Banner applications will be accepted until August 31 at a cost of $200.00 per banner.  This is not a fundraiser for the Alliance.  Money collected will pay for the production costs of the banners and any remaining funds will go to support “Race for a Soldier” and the PTSD Foundation.  They will direct those funds appropriately to local veterans and those currently serving.  The Banners will hang in our community from mid-September through late November 2018.  After that time, the banners will be available to the families.

We have space for forty banners for the first round in 2018, and they will be approved in the order in which they are received. Pictures in uniform are required in a high quality digital form. If you do not have a digital copy, please bring the picture to the Main Street office and we will digitize the photo and return it to you in an appropriate time frame.

The application is available at the Alliance Office (3311 Harborview Drive, Suite 101), at 253-514-0071, or via e-mail at info@ghhwa.org. Applications will also be available at the Information Booth at the Waterfront Farmers Market each Thursday, 1-7, through the end of August, or until all 40 banners are purchased.

The message is clear: “We honor and appreciate our local Heroes”.
