Downtown Waterfront Alliance Launches New Veteran’s Banner Project
– Honoring Gig Harbor’s Heroes –
The Downtown Waterfront Alliance is introducing a new project to honor our local Military Heroes. Applications for this unique opportunity to honor those who have served, or are currently serving, are being accepted. Banner applications will be accepted until August 31 at a cost of $200.00 per banner. This is not a fundraiser for the Alliance. Money collected will pay for the production costs of the banners and any remaining funds will go to support “Race for a Soldier” and the PTSD Foundation. They will direct those funds appropriately to local veterans and those currently serving. The Banners will hang in our community from mid-September through late November 2018. After that time, the banners will be available to the families.
We have space for forty banners for the first round in 2018, and they will be approved in the order in which they are received. Pictures in uniform are required in a high quality digital form. If you do not have a digital copy, please bring the picture to the Main Street office and we will digitize the photo and return it to you in an appropriate time frame.
The application is available at the Alliance Office (3311 Harborview Drive, Suite 101), at 253-514-0071, or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will also be available at the Information Booth at the Waterfront Farmers Market each Thursday, 1-7, through the end of August, or until all 40 banners are purchased.
The message is clear: “We honor and appreciate our local Heroes”.

Indulge your love of art at the First Saturday Art Walk every month along Gig Harbor’s Downtown Waterfront. The Gig Harbor Waterfront Alliance is re-launching this award-winning event as yet another step towards showcasing downtown as an enjoyable destination for both visitors and area residents. This free event allows art enthusiasts to stroll through seven galleries featuring artist demonstrations, refreshments, and displays reflecting a diverse selection of mediums and styles.
“We believe art plays a significant role in creating a downtown destination, and an art walk is an interactive way to be part of this positive transformation,” noted Brad Stave, gallery committee chair. Art Walk participants can elect to pick up a passport at the first gallery visited and drop it off at their last stop. With all 9 galleries stamped you will be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 gift certificate. Participating galleries include Ebb Tide Gallery, Gallery Row, Maritime Jewelers, Dolly Mama Boutique, Water’s Edge Gallery & Framery, Inc., Blackwater Trading Company, Sea Hags, Harbor WildWatch and Morso. (Note: Morso is ages 21 and up only, so if you are under 21, a stamp from Morso will not be needed to complete the passport.)
Award Winning Guided Walking Tours of the Downtown Waterfront!
Exciting News! The Waterfront Walking Tours will return for Summer 2017! The tours are presented by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, Harbor WildWatch and the Harbor History Museum.
The “From Skiffs to Spirits” Tour is offered on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm from June 7 – August 30. This one hour tour is free and meets at the entrance to the Harbor History Museum (4121 Harborview Dr). Enjoy an evening stroll along the waterfront while learning about our past – from net sheds and our historic fishing fleet to the effects of prohibition in the harbor, yesterday and today. This tour is geared for adults and will end with an optional tasting at our very own Heritage Distilling Company!
Our original tour, “Harbor Heritage: Then and Now” is offered every Saturday morning June 10 – August 26, except for July 29 due to the Wine and Food Festival. This two hour tour meets at 10am at the Maritime Pier (3003 Harborview Drive) next to the Tides Tavern. Take a family-friendly journey through Gig Harbor’s maritime history. Learn about our founding families, pioneering industries, and the wildlife and natural resources that brought us all together. This tour offers a glimpse of what life was like in the early Harbor days and how activities from the past have influenced our present. This tour is suitable and fun for all ages.
Tours are free to the public and features two guides, one of which is an expert from Harbor WildWatch. Tours are one way tours, so we recommend riding the trolley back to the starting area, or walking back and enjoy all the harbor has to offer. In the spring of 2016, the Washington Stage Main Street Program awarded the Alliance an Excellence on Main Award for our Waterfront Walking Tour program.
